Happy Thursday!

In social studies we covered Chapter 5 Lesson 3, Chapter 6 Lessons 1 and 2, and tomorrow we will complete Chapter 6 Lesson 3. After lesson 3, we are into the 4th Unit of our social studies curriculum. There are 6 Units so we are right on track! I created an assessment for each lesson and those have been entered into the grade book.

In Science, we completed lessons 3 and 4, which concluded Unit 5. Therefore next week we will begin Unit 6. There are 12 Units in science so we are right on track in science as well! All of those lessons have been entered into the grade book.

Tomorrow, we will start our Star Reading and Star Math testing. This was decided at the end of today so I haven’t mentioned this to the students yet. If you could mention this, that would be great! If not, they are very flexible about schedule change. Tomorrow we will keep the same time schedule, but in place of a reading lesson and a math lesson they will be testing. Whatever isn’t finished will be completed next Tuesday.

We have started a new class book called, “Who is Malala Yousafzai?”. It is geared towards grades 3-8. It is a nonfiction book about a girl from Pakistan who was told she could no longer attend school. She fought for her education and won a Nobel Peace Prize. We have just learned about grit and Malala is a very good example of grit. This story will count towards an active listening grade, a reading grade, and a social studies grade. It is interesting learning about Malala, as she is 20 years old today. So, these historical events have occurred within the last 20 years. This really surprised the students!

I sent home a list of materials the students will need for the science project we will start next Tuesday. Let me know if you are unable to get these materials or if you have any questions about the science fair!
